How to select the podcast mic (Mac)

How to use the RODE podcast mic when shooting a video, recording a podcast or conducting a video call

To ensure optimal use of your RODE podcast microphone when shooting videos, recording podcasts, or conducting video calls, follow these streamlined steps:

Initial Setup

  1. Connect Your Hardware

    1. Make sure the USB-C cord is plugged into your laptop

    2. Power on the Streamer X by clicking the microphone dial until the indicator light under the microphone turns on. The light should be pink (see below):

  2. Configure Your Computer Settings

    1. On your Mac, navigate to Settings > Sound > Input & Output.

    2. Select "Streamer X Main" as your input device to route audio from the microphone to your system

  3. Set Input Levels

    1. Check the Input Level meter while speaking into the microphone. It should move, indicating the system is detecting sound.

    2. Adjust the microphone gain by turning the encoder dial (pink light) on the Streamer X.

Setup in Zoom

  1. Open a Zoom Meeting

  2. Go to Audio Settings

  3. In Settings under Microphone, select the "Streamer X Main"

  4. Click "Test mic" and ensure that Input levels are green

    1. You can adjust levels by turning the encoder dial (pink circle) on the Streamer X.

Setup in Google Meet

  1. Open a Google Meeting

  2. Click the arrow next to the microphone at the bottom of the meeting

  3. Select "Streamer X Main" as the microphone.

  4. If audio is not working, return to Initial Setup steps to configure

Additional Tips

  • For more advanced control, download the RØDE Central software (LINK). This allows you to customize effects, manage multiple inputs, and fine-tune your audio setup.

By following these steps, you can confidently use your RODE podcast mic for high-quality audio during video shoots, recordings, or calls.
